Everyone loves a clean house, don’t they? We know that it can be a pain to go through the rhythm of cleaning, especially when you’ve left it for a while. Some of the worst offenders when cleaning a kitchen are the appliances. Thankfully, one woman from Australia has found a way to ensure that appliances are no longer such a slog to make them bright and shiny.
A woman named Natasha on Facebook shared the ultimate appliance cleaning hack – olive oil and barkeepers friend. She shared a before and after photo of her appliance to a mom’s Facebook group. The results were stunning to say the least.
Wearing Over The Years
A common complaint is that while an old appliance may work fine, it starts to wear over the years and looks terrible. Most people think this worn look can’t be taken care of, but Natasha shared the secret to making sure no one has to throw out an old appliance just because of its age.
After Natasha’s husband suggested buying a new dishwasher for their kitchen, she had another idea. She grabbed a microfiber cloth and mixed together the aforementioned ingredients before wiping down the outside of the appliance. Her smart thinking saved them hundreds of dollars.
Along with the picture of the sparkling dishwasher, she captioned her post, “I feel kind of RIDICULOUS for not knowing these literally just unplug from your ceiling. I had always just removed the cover and wiped what I could reach off the fan. So if you are as clueless as I am, here’s your reminder that these come out easily and probably (definitely) need a good clean.”
The Ultimate Cleaning Hack
She said on social media, “I just can’t believe the difference. I’m a little embarrassed I didn’t do this sooner! She’s still worn but sparkly.” Nathasha’s before and after pictures has other mom’s on the group stunned. They couldn’t believe the transformation the appliance had undergone.
The cleaning hack should work on more than just a dishwasher. Any appliance with a stainless steel finish that starts to wear over the years should work. To make matters even easier, both olive oil and barkeeper’s friends are easy finds at most supermarkets. Just regular old olive oil will do. We haven’t tested any other kind, but there’s a good chance they’d be a good substitute in a pinch. Barkeeper’s Friend, on the other hand, is a good all-purpose cleaner for any task at home.
